General Committee changes
During the summer there has been a change to the Blencathra Foxhounds General Committee which has to be formally ratified at the next AGM on 13th Oct 2011.
Michael Thompson explained the following:-
"Due to the high workload in organising the running of the Blencathra Foxhounds I have felt that it is becoming more difficult for one person to carry out all the work of chairing the General Committee and the role of Master. As some of you will have seen on our web site www.blencathrafoxhounds.com we have decided to appoint a new chairman for the General Committee, Myles Walker has agreed to take on this role for 3 years provided it is ratified at the next AGM.
I will be continuing in the position of Master of the Blencathra covering the day to day operation and giving my complete support to Myles and of course remaining on the General Committee.
This exciting change I believe will both improve the structure and also strengthen the organisation and coupled with the newly formed Supporters Group all helping to ensure that the Blencathra operates as an effective unit".
We are gradually firming up dates for future events and we’ve had some very well attended events so far:-
Flower Demonstration – 21st June 2011 - A very successful event which was well received with requests for a similar event in the future. Our thanks to Margery Mattinson and all those who helped and supported Margery
Terrier and Lurcher Show – 8th July 2011 - This year was the first time that we had a lurcher show as well as terriers. The attendance was so big that the car park was virtually over flowing at the cricket club. Thanks to Kathleen and Kenny and all those who provided the support to ensure that we had a very successful evening. Don’t miss it next year!
Duck Race – 31st July 2011 – As this was our first Duck Race we had a
practice on the Friday night which was attended by a small group who
enjoyed a picnic.
The race on the 31st had over 800 duck entries, with the whole event
being well attended by many supporters who had a good time in reasonable
The winning duck owners were:-
1st – Jane Parrish 2nd – Joyce Proud
3rd - David Lopez 4th - Les Johnston
5th - Hillary Wilkinson.
Gill Mawson has put a lot of time and effort into this great event with her team of supporters, let’s hope this will become an annual event.
Race Night – Friday 14th October 2011 @ 7-30 pm (opening hunt week) Keswick Golf Club details still to be finalised.
Lunch – Sunday 23rd October 2011 @ 12-30 pm Mungrisdale Village Hall tickets £15-00 each from Annie Binney 016973 71256 and Tina Walker 017684 84193. Please order before 16th October.
Guest speaker Kate Hoey MP and Chairman of The Countryside Alliance.
200 club – We currently have over 200 members and would like to increase this to 400. The membership is £12 per year which gives 12 monthly prizes and starts each year from December which has a first prize of £100. Please contact Stan or Margery Mattinson or myself during Sept/Oct/Nov this year to join.
Hound Sponsorship – Diane Todhunter Robinson is arranging hound sponsorship during Sept/Oct this year.
2nd Flower Demonstration – First week December 2011. Due to popular demand Margery Mattinson is planning a second event to be held at the Keswick Golf Club with Mulled wine and mince pies. More details when available.
